56S21V56

قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمۡ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ

Il dit: «Mais votre Seigneur est plutôt le Seigneur des cieux et de la terre, et c'est Lui qui les a créés. Et je suis un de ceux qui en témoignent

Al-JalalaynAl-Jalalayn

He said ‘Nay but your Lord the only One worthy of being worshipped is the Lord the Owner of the heavens and the earth the One Who originated them Who created them without any precedent and to that which I have said I am a witness.

57S21V57

وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصۡنَٰمَكُم بَعۡدَ أَن تُوَلُّواْ مُدۡبِرِينَ

Et par Allah! Je ruserai certes contre vos idoles une fois que vous serez partis»

Al-JalalaynAl-Jalalayn

And by God I shall devise a stratagem against your idols after you have gone away with your backs turned’.

58S21V58

فَجَعَلَهُمۡ جُذَٰذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرٗا لَّهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ إِلَيۡهِ يَرۡجِعُونَ

Il les mit en pièces, hormis [la statue] la plus grande. Peut-être qu'ils reviendraient vers elle

And so after they had set off to a gathering of theirs on one of their festival days he reduced them to fragments read judhādhan or jidhādhan meaning ‘pieces’ smashing them with a hatchet all except the principal one among them around whose neck he hung the hatchet that they might return to it that is to the principal one and see what he had done to the others.

59S21V59

قَالُواْ مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

Ils dirent: «Qui a fait cela à nos divinités? Il est certes parmi les injustes»

Al-JalalaynAl-Jalalayn

They said upon returning and seeing what had been done ‘Who has done this to our gods? Truly he is an evildoer’ in this regard.

60S21V60

قَالُواْ سَمِعۡنَا فَتٗى يَذۡكُرُهُمۡ يُقَالُ لَهُۥٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمُ

(Certains) dirent: «Nous avons entendu un jeune homme médire d'elles; il s'appelle Abraham»

Al-JalalaynAl-Jalalayn

They said one to the other ‘We heard a young man making ill mention of them deriding them — he is called Abraham’.
