فَلَا ٱقۡتَحَمَ ٱلۡعَقَبَةَ
Or, il ne s'engage pas dans la voie difficile
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(But he hath not attempted the Ascent) He says: but did he go beyond that hurdle which is the Bridge over hell?
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡعَقَبَةُ
Et qui te dira ce qu'est la voie difficile
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Ah, what will convey unto thee) O Muhammad (what the Ascent is!) it is a smooth hurdle between Paradise and hell. Allah said this to arouse the Prophet's astonishment.
فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ
C'est délier un joug [affranchir un esclave]
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
((It is) to free a slave) He says: its crossing requires the freeing of a slave; and it is also said this means: none will cross it save he who has freed a slave,
أَوۡ إِطۡعَٰمٞ فِي يَوۡمٖ ذِي مَسۡغَبَةٖ
ou nourrir, en un jour de famine

(And to feed in the day of hunger) and hardship
يَتِيمٗا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍ
un orphelin proche parent

(An orphan near of kin,
