Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡفِيلِ
N'as-tu pas vu comment ton Seigneur a agi envers les gens de l'Eléphant
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
And from his narration on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that he said about the interpretation of Allah's saying (Hast thou not seen): '(Hast thou not seen) i.e. have you not been informed, O Muhammad, in the Qur'an (how thy Lord dealt with) how your Lord punished and destroyed (the owners of the Elephant) the people of the Negus who intended to destroy the House of Allah?
أَلَمۡ يَجۡعَلۡ كَيۡدَهُمۡ فِي تَضۡلِيلٖ
N'a-t-Il pas rendu leur ruse complètement vaine
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Did He not bring their stratagem) their scheming (to naught) to utter loss,
وَأَرۡسَلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ طَيۡرًا أَبَابِيلَ
et envoyé sur eux des oiseaux par volées
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(And send against them) and set on them (swarms of flying creatures) in succession,
تَرۡمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٖ مِّن سِجِّيلٖ
qui leur lançaient des pierres d'argile
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Which pelted them with) which threw on them (stones of baked clay) like baked bricks.
فَجَعَلَهُمۡ كَعَصۡفٖ مَّأۡكُولِۭ
Et Il les a rendus semblables à une paille mâchée
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(And made them like green crops devoured) by worms?'
