إِذۡ يُغَشِّيكُمُ ٱلنُّعَاسَ أَمَنَةٗ مِّنۡهُ وَيُنَزِّلُ عَلَيۡكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم بِهِۦ وَيُذۡهِبَ عَنكُمۡ رِجۡزَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ وَلِيَرۡبِطَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُمۡ وَيُثَبِّتَ بِهِ ٱلۡأَقۡدَامَ
Et quand Il vous enveloppa de sommeil comme d'une sécurité de Sa part, et du ciel Il fit descendre de l'eau sur vous afin de vous en purifier, d'écarter de vous la souillure du Diable, de renforcer les cœurs et d'en raffermir les pas! [vos pas]
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(When He made the slumber fall upon you) when He cast sleepiness upon you (as a reassurance) to you (from Him) from Allah against the enemy; and this is a favour from Allah towards you (and sent down water) rain (from the sky upon you, that thereby He might purify you) with rain from physical and minor and major ritual impurities, (and remove from you the fear of Satan) the whispering of Satan, (and make strong your hearts) and preserve your hearts with steadfastness (and firm) by means of the rain ((your) feet thereby) on the sand, i.e. He gathers the sand such that feet become firm on it.
إِذۡ يُوحِي رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ أَنِّي مَعَكُمۡ فَثَبِّتُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْۚ سَأُلۡقِي فِي قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ ٱلرُّعۡبَ فَٱضۡرِبُواْ فَوۡقَ ٱلۡأَعۡنَاقِ وَٱضۡرِبُواْ مِنۡهُمۡ كُلَّ بَنَانٖ
Et ton Seigneur révéla aux Anges: «Je suis avec vous: affermissez donc les croyants. Je vais jeter l'effroi dans les cœurs des mécréants. Frappez donc au-dessus des cous et frappez-les sur tous les bouts des doigts

(When your Lord inspired the angels) it is also said that this means: when your Lord commanded the angels, ((saying:) I am with you) I will help you. (So make those who believe stand firm) in war; it is also said that this means: give those who believe the good news of victory. (I will throw) cast (fear into the hearts of those who disbelieve) the fear of Muhammad (pbuh) and his Companions. (Then smite the necks) their heads (and smite of them each finger) each shaped finger.
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ شَآقُّواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥۚ وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ
Ce, parce qu'ils ont désobéi à Allah et à Son messager.» Et quiconque désobéit à Allah et à Son messager... Allah est certainement dur en punition
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(That) fighting (is because they opposed Allah and His messenger) in relation to Religion. (Whoso opposeth Allah and His messenger) in Religion, ((for him) lo! Allah is severe in punishment) when He punishes.
ذَٰلِكُمۡ فَذُوقُوهُ وَأَنَّ لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ
Voilà (votre sort); goûtez-le donc! Et aux mécréants le châtiment du Feu (sera réservé)
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(That) is your punishment, (so taste it) in the life of this world, (and (know) that for disbelievers) in the Hereafter (is the torment of the Fire).
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ زَحۡفٗا فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ ٱلۡأَدۡبَارَ
O vous qui croyez quand vous rencontrez (l'armée) des mécréants en marche, ne leur tournez point le dos
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(O ye who believe, When ye meet those who disbelieve) at Badr (in battle, turn not your backs to them) in defeat.
