يَٰقَوۡمِ ٱدۡخُلُواْ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسَةَ ٱلَّتِي كَتَبَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمۡ وَلَا تَرۡتَدُّواْ عَلَىٰٓ أَدۡبَارِكُمۡ فَتَنقَلِبُواْ خَٰسِرِينَ
O mon peuple! Entrez dans la terre sainte qu'Allah vous a prescrite. Et ne revenez point sur vos pas [en refusant de combattre] car vous retourneriez perdants
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(O my people! Go into the holy land) the purified Damascus, Palestine and parts of Jordan (which Allah hath ordained for you) which Allah has gifted to you and made it a bequest of your father Abraham. (Turn not in flight) retreating, (for surely ye turn back as losers) who are punished: Allah will take away from you the quails and honey:
قَالُواْ يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّ فِيهَا قَوۡمٗا جَبَّارِينَ وَإِنَّا لَن نَّدۡخُلَهَا حَتَّىٰ يَخۡرُجُواْ مِنۡهَا فَإِن يَخۡرُجُواْ مِنۡهَا فَإِنَّا دَٰخِلُونَ
Ils dirent: «O Moïse, il y a là un peuple de géants. Jamais nous n'y entrerons jusqu'à ce qu'ils en sortent. S'ils en sortent, alors nous y entrerons»

(They said: O Moses! Lo! a giant people) assassins ((dwell) therein, and lo! we go not in) this land of assassins (till they go forth from thence. When they go forth, then we will enter (not till then)).
قَالَ رَجُلَانِ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَنۡعَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيۡهِمَا ٱدۡخُلُواْ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡبَابَ فَإِذَا دَخَلۡتُمُوهُ فَإِنَّكُمۡ غَٰلِبُونَۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَتَوَكَّلُوٓاْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤۡمِنِينَ
Deux hommes d'entre ceux qui craignaient Allah et qui étaient comblés par Lui de bienfaits dirent: «Entrez chez eux par la porte; puis quand vous y serez entrés, vous serez sans doute les dominants. Et c'est en Allah qu'il faut avoir confiance, si vous êtes croyants»
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Then spoke two of those who feared) two men who feared the assassins (unto whom Allah had been gracious) by bestowing upon them the certainty of inspiration; these two men were Joshua ben Nun and Caleb ben Jephunneh: (Enter in upon them by the gate, for if ye enter by it, lo! ye will be victorious. So put your trust (in Allah)) that you will be victorious (if ye are indeed believers) it is also said that the two men who said this are two men from the assassins who feared Moses and with whom Allah was gracious by bestowing upon them belief in Allah's divine Oneness.
قَالُواْ يَٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّا لَن نَّدۡخُلَهَآ أَبَدٗا مَّا دَامُواْ فِيهَا فَٱذۡهَبۡ أَنتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَٰتِلَآ إِنَّا هَٰهُنَا قَٰعِدُونَ
Ils dirent: «Moïse! Nous n'y entrerons jamais, aussi longtemps qu'ils y seront. Va donc, toi et ton Seigneur, et combattez tous deux. Nous restons là où nous sommes»
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(They said: O Moses! We will never enter (the land)) of the giant people (while they are in it. So go thou and thy Lord) go with your master Aaron (and fight) for your Lord will help you as He did against Pharaoh and his people! (We will sit here) and wait.
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي لَآ أَمۡلِكُ إِلَّا نَفۡسِي وَأَخِيۖ فَٱفۡرُقۡ بَيۡنَنَا وَبَيۡنَ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ
Il dit: «Seigneur! Je n'ai de pouvoir, vraiment, que sur moi-même et sur mon frère: sépare-nous donc de ce peuple pervers»
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(He said: My Lord!) Moses said: O my Lord! (I have control of none but myself and my brother, so distinguish between us) judge between us (and the wrong-doing folk) the contravening folk.
