Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ
Est-ce ce discours-là que vous traitez de mensonge
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Is it this Statement) is it this Qur'an which Muhammad (pbuh) recites to you, O people of Mecca, (that ye scorn) that you deny, and claim that there is no Paradise or hell, resurrection or reckoning, as the Prophet says,
وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Et est-ce pour vous [une façon d'être reconnaissant] à votre subsistance que de traiter (le Coran) de mensonge
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(And make denial thereof your livelihood) and say about the rain that you are given: we were given rain because of such-and-such a storm?
فَلَوۡلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ
Lorsque le souffle de la vie remonte à la gorge (d'un moribond)
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Why, then, when (the soul) cometh up to the throat (of the dying)
وَأَنتُمۡ حِينَئِذٖ تَنظُرُونَ
et qu'à ce moment là vous regardez
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
And ye) O people of Mecca (are at that moment looking) when his soul will come out
وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ
et que Nous sommes plus proche de lui que vous [qui l'entourez] mais vous ne [le] voyez point
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(And We are nearer unto him) the angel of death and his aids are closer to the dying person (than ye are) than his own family, (but ye see not) the angel of death and his aids.
