36S18V36

وَمَآ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَآئِمَةٗ وَلَئِن رُّدِدتُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي لَأَجِدَنَّ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهَا مُنقَلَبٗا

et je ne pense pas que l'Heure viendra. Et si on me ramène vers mon Seigneur, je trouverai certes meilleur lieu de retour que ce jardin

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘AbbâsTanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

(I think not that the Hour will ever come) will ever take place, (and if indeed I am brought back unto my Lord) as you claim (I surely shall find better than this) garden (as a resort) as a returning place.

37S18V37

قَالَ لَهُۥ صَاحِبُهُۥ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ أَكَفَرۡتَ بِٱلَّذِي خَلَقَكَ مِن تُرَابٖ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطۡفَةٖ ثُمَّ سَوَّىٰكَ رَجُلٗا

Son compagnon lui dit, tout en conversant avec lui: «Serais-tu mécréant envers Celui qui t'a créé de terre, puis de sperme et enfin t'a façonné en homme

(And his comrade) the believer, (while he disputed with him) such that he may renounce his disbelief, (exclaimed: Disbelievest thou in Him Who created thee of dust) He created you from Adam and Adam is from dust, (then of a drop (of seed)) of your father, (and then fashioned you a man) of an upright stature?

38S18V38

لَّـٰكِنَّا۠ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ رَبِّي وَلَآ أُشۡرِكُ بِرَبِّيٓ أَحَدٗا

Quant à moi, c'est Allah qui est mon Seigneur; et je n'associe personne à mon Seigneur

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘AbbâsTanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

(But) I say (He is Allah, my Lord) my Creator and Provider, (and I ascribe unto my Lord no partner) among idols.

39S18V39

وَلَوۡلَآ إِذۡ دَخَلۡتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلۡتَ مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِۚ إِن تَرَنِ أَنَا۠ أَقَلَّ مِنكَ مَالٗا وَوَلَدٗا

En entrant dans ton jardin, que ne dis-tu: «Telle est la volonté (et la grâce) d'Allah! Il n'y a de puissance que par Allah». Si tu me vois moins pourvu que toi en biens et en enfants

Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘AbbâsTanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

(If only, when thou enteredst thy garden, thou hadst said: That which Allah willeth (will come to pass)!) this is from Allah and not from me. (There is no strength save in Allah!) this is only through Allah's power, not through my own power. (Though thou seest me as less than you in wealth and children) and servants in the life of this world.

40S18V40

فَعَسَىٰ رَبِّيٓ أَن يُؤۡتِيَنِ خَيۡرٗا مِّن جَنَّتِكَ وَيُرۡسِلَ عَلَيۡهَا حُسۡبَانٗا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتُصۡبِحَ صَعِيدٗا زَلَقًا

il se peut que mon Seigneur, bientôt, me donne quelque chose de meilleur que ton jardin, qu'Il envoie sur [ce dernier], du ciel, quelque calamité, et que son sol devienne glissant

(Yet it may be) 'may be' when used in connection to Allah denotes a requisite (that my Lord will give me) in the Hereafter (better than your garden) in the life of this world, (and will send on it) on your garden (a bolt) of fire (from heaven, and some morning it will be a smooth hillside) smooth dust,
