قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسۡتَكۡبَرُوٓاْ إِنَّا بِٱلَّذِيٓ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ كَٰفِرُونَ
Ceux qui s'enflaient d'orgueil dirent: «Nous, nous ne croyons certainement pas en ce que vous avez cru»
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Those who were scornful) towards believing (said: Lo! in that which ye believe we are disbelievers) deniers.
فَعَقَرُواْ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوۡاْ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَقَالُواْ يَٰصَٰلِحُ ٱئۡتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ
Ils tuèrent la chamelle, désobéirent au commandement de leur Seigneur et dirent: «O Sâlih, fais nous venir ce dont tu nous menaces, si tu es du nombre des Envoyés»

(So they hamstrung) killed (the she-camel, and they flouted the commandment of their Lord) they refused to accept the commands of their Lord with which Salih enjoined them, (and they said: O Salih! Bring upon us that which thou threatenest) of torment (if thou art indeed of those sent (from Allah)) they said this out of mockery.
فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلرَّجۡفَةُ فَأَصۡبَحُواْ فِي دَارِهِمۡ جَٰثِمِينَ
Le cataclysme les saisit; et les voilà étendus gisant dans leurs demeures

(So the earthquake) and the loud noise announcing their torment (seized them, and morning found them prostrate) dead without a movement (in their dwelling-place) in their town.
فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنۡهُمۡ وَقَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ لَقَدۡ أَبۡلَغۡتُكُمۡ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّي وَنَصَحۡتُ لَكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ
Alors il se détourna d'eux et dit: «O mon peuple, je vous avais communiqué le message de mon Seigneur et vous avais conseillé sincèrement. Mais vous n'aimez pas les conseillers sincères!»

(And Salih turned on them) Salih left them before they were destroyed (and said: O my people! I delivered my Lord's message unto you) explaining the commands and prohibitions (and gave you good advice) I warned you of Allah's torment and called you to repent and believe, (but ye love not good advisers) you do not listen to those who advise you.
وَلُوطًا إِذۡ قَالَ لِقَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَتَأۡتُونَ ٱلۡفَٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنۡ أَحَدٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Et Lot, quand il dit à son peuple: «Vous livrez vous à cette turpitude que nul, parmi les mondes, n'a commise avant vous
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(And Lot!) and We sent Lot to his people. (When he said unto his folk: Will ye commit abomination) i.e. sodomy (such as no creature ever did) this act (before you?)
