فَبَشَّرۡنَٰهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ حَلِيمٖ
Nous lui fîmes donc la bonne annonce d'un garçon (Ismaël) longanime
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(So We gave him tidings of a gentle son) a son who is knowledgeable in his youth, gentle in his old age.
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعۡيَ قَالَ يَٰبُنَيَّ إِنِّيٓ أَرَىٰ فِي ٱلۡمَنَامِ أَنِّيٓ أَذۡبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرۡ مَاذَا تَرَىٰۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفۡعَلۡ مَا تُؤۡمَرُۖ سَتَجِدُنِيٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ
Puis quand celui-ci fut en âge de l'accompagner, [Abraham] dit: «O mon fils, je me vois en songe en train de t'immoler. Vois donc ce que tu en penses». (Ismaël) dit: «O mon cher père, fais ce qui t'es commandé: tu me trouveras, s'il plaît à Allah, du nombre des endurants»

(And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him) when his son was old enough to strive for Allah and obey Him; it is also said that this means: when his son was old enough to walk with him in the mountains, ((Abraham) said) to his son Ishmael; and it is also said: to his son Isaac: (O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee) I am commanded in a dream vision to sacrifice you. (So look, what thinkest thou) what do you say? (He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded) of sacrificing me. (Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast) in the face of this sacrifice.
فَلَمَّآ أَسۡلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلۡجَبِينِ
Puis quand tous deux se furent soumis (à l'ordre d'Allah) et qu'il l'eut jeté sur le front
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Then, when they had both surrendered (to Allah)) when they both agreed and consigned the matter to Allah, (and he had flung him down upon his face) and it is said: on his side,
وَنَٰدَيۡنَٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبۡرَٰهِيمُ
voilà que Nous l'appelâmes «Abraham
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(We called unto him: O Abraham:
قَدۡ صَدَّقۡتَ ٱلرُّءۡيَآۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
Tu as confirmé la vision. C'est ainsi que Nous récompensons les bienfaisants»
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
Thou hast already fulfilled the vision) you have fulfilled what you were commanded in the dream vision. (Lo! thus do We reward the good) in their words and works.
