فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمۡ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ
Alors il se glissa vers leurs divinités et dit: «Ne mangez-vous pas
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Then turned he) i.e. Abraham (to their gods and said) to them: (Will ye not eat) the honey you have on you?
مَا لَكُمۡ لَا تَنطِقُونَ
Qu'avez-vous à ne pas parler?»
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
When they did not answer him, he said: (What aileth you that ye speak not) why do you not answer me?
فَرَاغَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ضَرۡبَۢا بِٱلۡيَمِينِ
Puis il se mit furtivement à les frapper de sa main droite

(Then he attacked them striking with his right hand) with an axe; it is also said that he fulfilled his oath.
فَأَقۡبَلُوٓاْ إِلَيۡهِ يَزِفُّونَ
Alors [les gens] vinrent à lui en courant

(And (his people) came towards him, hastening) from their festival.
قَالَ أَتَعۡبُدُونَ مَا تَنۡحِتُونَ
Il [leur] dit: «Adorez-vous ce que vous-mêmes sculptez
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(He said) Abraham said to them: (Worship ye that which ye yourselves do carve) with your own hands from stones and wood,
