فَلَمَّا جَآءَهُم مُّوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا بَيِّنَٰتٖ قَالُواْ مَا هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ مُّفۡتَرٗى وَمَا سَمِعۡنَا بِهَٰذَا فِيٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
Puis, quand Moïse vint à eux avec Nos prodiges évidents, ils dirent: «Ce n'est là que magie inventée. Jamais nous n'avons entendu parler de cela chez nos premiers ancêtres»

(But when Moses came unto them with Our clear tokens) the hand and the staff, (they said) O Moses: (This) which you have brought us (is naught but invented magic) a lie which you have invented. (We never heard of this) which you are saying (among our fathers of old) among our deceased forefathers.
وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ رَبِّيٓ أَعۡلَمُ بِمَن جَآءَ بِٱلۡهُدَىٰ مِنۡ عِندِهِۦ وَمَن تَكُونُ لَهُۥ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلدَّارِۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفۡلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
Et Moïse dit: «Mon Seigneur connaît mieux qui est venu de Sa part avec la guidée, et à qui appartiendra la Demeure finale. Vraiment, les injustes ne réussiront pas»

(And Moses said: My Lord is best aware of him who bringeth guidance) who brings the message and the call for the profession of Allah's divine Oneness (from His presence, and whose will be the sequel of the Home (of bliss)) Paradise in the Hereafter. (Lo! wrong-doers) the idolaters (will not be successful) they will not be saved from Allah's chastisement.
وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمَلَأُ مَا عَلِمۡتُ لَكُم مِّنۡ إِلَٰهٍ غَيۡرِي فَأَوۡقِدۡ لِي يَٰهَٰمَٰنُ عَلَى ٱلطِّينِ فَٱجۡعَل لِّي صَرۡحٗا لَّعَلِّيٓ أَطَّلِعُ إِلَىٰٓ إِلَٰهِ مُوسَىٰ وَإِنِّي لَأَظُنُّهُۥ مِنَ ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَ
Et Pharaon dit: «O notables, je ne connais pas de divinité pour vous, autre que moi. Hâmân, allume-moi du feu sur l'argile puis construis-moi une tour peut-être alors monterai-je jusqu'au Dieu de Moïse. Je pense plutôt qu'il est du nombre des menteurs»

(And Pharaoh said: O chiefs) O men of Egypt! (I know not that ye have a god other than me) therefore do not obey Moses, (so kindle for me (a fire), O Haman, to bake the mud; and set up for me a lofty tower in order that I may survey) I may climb up to (the God of Moses) whom he claims is in heaven and send him to me; (and lo! I deem him of the liars) there is no god in heaven.
وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ هُوَ وَجُنُودُهُۥ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ بِغَيۡرِ ٱلۡحَقِّ وَظَنُّوٓاْ أَنَّهُمۡ إِلَيۡنَا لَا يُرۡجَعُونَ
Et il s'enfla d'orgueil sur terre ainsi que ses soldats, sans aucun droit. Et ils pensèrent qu'ils ne seraient pas ramenés vers Nous

(And he and his hosts) the Copts (were haughty) too proud to accept faith (in the land) of Egypt (without right) to do so, (and deemed that they would never be brought back to Us) in the Hereafter.
فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذۡنَٰهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡيَمِّۖ فَٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
Nous le saisîmes donc, ainsi que ses soldats, et les jetâmes dans le flot. Regarde donc ce qu'il est advenu des injustes
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(Therefore We seized him) i.e. Pharaoh, because of what he said initially, �I am your exalted lord�, and his other claim: �I know not that you have a god other than me� (and his hosts) the Coptic people, (and abandoned them unto the sea) and cast them in the sea. (Behold) O Muhammad (the nature of the consequence for evil-doers) how was the end of the idolaters: Pharaoh and his host!
