Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs

112 versets
قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمۡ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ٱلَّذِي فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ
Il dit: «Mais votre Seigneur est plutôt le Seigneur des cieux et de la terre, et c'est Lui qui les a créés. Et je suis un de ceux qui en témoignent
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(He said) Abraham said: (Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that) to what I have said.
وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصۡنَٰمَكُم بَعۡدَ أَن تُوَلُّواْ مُدۡبِرِينَ
Et par Allah! Je ruserai certes contre vos idoles une fois que vous serez partis»
Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs — Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn ‘Abbâs
(And, by Allah) he said this to himself, (I shall circumvent) I shall demolish (your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs) to go to the festival.
فَجَعَلَهُمۡ جُذَٰذًا إِلَّا كَبِيرٗا لَّهُمۡ لَعَلَّهُمۡ إِلَيۡهِ يَرۡجِعُونَ
Il les mit en pièces, hormis [la statue] la plus grande. Peut-être qu'ils reviendraient vers elle

When they went to their festival and they left Abraham behind in their township, he went to the house of their idols. (Then he reduced them to fragments) he destroyed them, (all save the chief of them) he left it intact, (that haply they might have recourse to it) after coming back from their festival and he could say that it was it that did it.
قَالُواْ مَن فَعَلَ هَٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
Ils dirent: «Qui a fait cela à nos divinités? Il est certes parmi les injustes»

They entered the house of their idols. (They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer) he committed an evil deed against our deities.
قَالُواْ سَمِعۡنَا فَتٗى يَذۡكُرُهُمۡ يُقَالُ لَهُۥٓ إِبۡرَٰهِيمُ
(Certains) dirent: «Nous avons entendu un jeune homme médire d'elles; il s'appelle Abraham»

(They said) a man among them said: (We heard a youth make mention of them) speaking ill of them and mentioning that he will break them, (who is called Abraham).
