129 versets
وَيَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ إِنَّهُمۡ لَمِنكُمۡ وَمَا هُم مِّنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِنَّهُمۡ قَوۡمٞ يَفۡرَقُونَ
Et ils (les hypocrites) jurent par Allah qu'ils sont vraiment des vôtres; alors qu'ils ne le sont pas. Mais ce sont des gens peureux

لَوۡ يَجِدُونَ مَلۡجَـًٔا أَوۡ مَغَٰرَٰتٍ أَوۡ مُدَّخَلٗا لَّوَلَّوۡاْ إِلَيۡهِ وَهُمۡ يَجۡمَحُونَ
S'ils trouvaient un refuge, des cavernes ou un souterrain, ils s'y tourneraient donc et s'y précipiteraient à bride abattue

وَمِنۡهُم مَّن يَلۡمِزُكَ فِي ٱلصَّدَقَٰتِ فَإِنۡ أُعۡطُواْ مِنۡهَا رَضُواْ وَإِن لَّمۡ يُعۡطَوۡاْ مِنۡهَآ إِذَا هُمۡ يَسۡخَطُونَ
Il en est parmi eux qui te critiquent au sujet des Sadaqats: s'il leur en est donné, les voilà contents; mais s'il ne leur en est pas donné, les voilà pleins de rancœur

(And of them is he who defameth thee in the matter of the alms�) [9:58]. Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim al-Tha�labi informed us> �Abd Allah ibn Hamid> Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Hafiz> Muhammad ibn Yahya> �Abd al-Razzaq> Ma�mar> al-Zuhri> Abu Salamah ibn �Abd al-Rahman> Abu Sa�id al-Khudri who said: �While the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, was dividing alms, Ibn Dhu Khuwaysirah al-Tamimi (Hurqus ibn Zuhayr, the origin of the Kharijites) came to him and said: �Be fair with us, O Messenger of Allah!� The Prophet replied to him: �Woe unto you, who is going to be fair if I am not?� And then the verse (And of them is he who defameth thee in the matter of the alms�) was revealed�. This was narrated by Bukhari from �Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Hisham from Ma�mar. Al-Kalbi said: �This was revealed about those whose hearts are to be reconciled, i.e. the hypocrites. One of them, whose name is al-Jawaz, said to the Prophet, Allah bless him and give him peace: �You did not divide [the alms] fairly!� And so Allah, exalted is He, revealed (And of them is he who defameth thee in the matter of the alms)�.
وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ رَضُواْ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَقَالُواْ حَسۡبُنَا ٱللَّهُ سَيُؤۡتِينَا ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضۡلِهِۦ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ رَٰغِبُونَ
S'ils s'étaient contentés de ce qu'Allah leur avait donné ainsi que Son messager et avaient dit: «Allah nous suffit. Bientôt Allah nous accordera Sa faveur de même que Son messager!... C'est vers Allah que va tout notre désir»

۞إِنَّمَا ٱلصَّدَقَٰتُ لِلۡفُقَرَآءِ وَٱلۡمَسَٰكِينِ وَٱلۡعَٰمِلِينَ عَلَيۡهَا وَٱلۡمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمۡ وَفِي ٱلرِّقَابِ وَٱلۡغَٰرِمِينَ وَفِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱبۡنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِۖ فَرِيضَةٗ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٞ
Les Sadaqâts ne sont destinés que pour les pauvres, les indigents, ceux qui y travaillent, ceux dont les cœurs sont à gagner (à l'Islam), l'affranchissement des jougs, ceux qui sont lourdement endettés, dans le sentier d'Allah, et pour le voyageur (en détresse). C'est un décret d'Allah! Et Allah est Omniscient et Sage

The freewill offerings are for the poor, and the indigent.... and the son of the road.... O you whose heart has never for one day walked in poverty and who, in your whole life, have never for one hour sat like Jacob in poverty's house of sorrows! O you who have never for one day placed your own attributes with the description of poverty in the mangonel of struggle and never for an instant sacrificed your spirit in the cave of exile and the state of indigence by following the beloved Prophet and the sincerely truthful Abū Bakr. You suppose that without tasting the drink of poverty and wearing the clothes of discipline today you will dwell tomorrow in the domiciles of the High Chambers with the poor among the Companions and the men of the road of poverty. Your supposition is erroneous and your self-governance wrong. They were a thousand times more passionate about that poverty of theirs than you are about being a chief. ʿAbd al-RaḤmān ibn ʿAwf was one of the paragons among the Companions, but the beauty of poverty had hidden its face from him. One day he came in to the presence of MuṣṬafā, and Saʿd ibn Muʿādh, a poor Companion, was present. Words came forth from ʿAbd al-RaḤmān that made the poor man sad, and he became ill. Then ʿAbd al-RaḤmān made one-half of his wealth a sacrifice for the suf- fering of his heart, but he would not accept. God's Messenger said, " O Saʿd, why will you not accept? " He said, " O Messenger of God! The pearl of poverty is too exalted to be sold even for the whole of this world. " For a hundred years the sun must rise in the east and set in the west before the beginningless decree gives a recognizer the eyes to see the beauty of poverty and recognize the exaltedness of poverty. He must have a pain that makes him familiar with seeking. But this seeking is not like the seeking of other things. This pain is not like other pains, which arise from the vapor of forbidden morsels and appear at the top of the stomach. The pain of the religion and the vision of this seeking arise from the level of the liver of the free man, and the exaltedness of the poverty in the hearts of seekers appears in the measure of their pain.
