Anas ibn Malik said
قَالَ: كَانَ أَحَبَّ الثِّيَابِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَلْبَسُهُ الْحِبَرَةُ.
“The apparel dearest to Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was the hibara that he used to wear.”
Awn ibn Abi Juhaifa said that his father said
قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَعَلَيْهِ حُلَّةٌ حَمْرَاءُ، كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى بَرِيقِ سَاقَيْهِ.
“I saw the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) wearing a red garb, as if I were looking at the sheen of his legs.” Sufyan said: “I think it was a hibara .”
Al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib said
قَالَ: مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا مِنَ النَّاسِ أَحْسَنَ فِي حُلَّةٍ حَمْرَاءَ، مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، إِنْ كَانَتْ جُمَّتُهُ لَتَضْرِبُ قَرِيبًا مِنْ مَنْكِبَيْهِ.
"I never saw anyone among the people more handsome in a red garb than Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), when the hair of his head was touching close to his shoulders.”
Abu Rimtha said
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ إِيَادٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي رِمْثَةَ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَعَلَيْهِ بُرْدَانِ أَخْضَرَانِ.
“I saw the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) wearing two green garments."
Qaila bint Makhrama said
قَالَتْ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَعَلَيْهِ أَسْمَالُ مُلَيَّتَيْنِ، كَانَتَا بِزَعْفَرَانٍ، وَقَدْ نَفَضَتْهُ وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ قِصَّةٌ طَوِيلَةٌ.
“I saw the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) wearing the tatters of two sheets which had been dyed with saffron, but had lost their color....” (This tradition is part of a longer story.)
Ibn 'Abbas said
قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْبَيَاضِ مِنَ الثِّيَابِ، لِيَلْبِسْهَا أَحْيَاؤُكُمْ، وَكَفِّنُوا فِيهَا مَوْتَاكُمْ، فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ خِيَارِ ثِيَابِكُمْ.
Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): “You should acquire white clothes, so that your living ones may wear them, and you can shroud your deceased in them, for they are among the best of your clothes.”
Samura ibn Jundub said
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ أَبِي شَبِيبٍ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: الْبَسُوا الْبَيَاضَ، فَإِنَّهَا أَطْهَرُ وَأَطْيَبُ، وَكَفِّنُوا فِيهَا مَوْتَاكُمْ.
“Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'Wear white, for it is most pure and pleasant, and you must shroud your deceased therein'.”
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ شَيْبَةَ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ شَيْبَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ذَاتَ غَدَاةٍ، وَعَلَيْهِ مِرْطٌ مِنْ شَعَرٍ أَسْودَ.
'Aisha said; “Allah's Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) went out one early morning, wearing a wrap of black hair.”
Urwa ibn al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba said that his father said
حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ عِيسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، لَبِسَ جُبَّةً رُومِيَّةً، ضَيِّقَةَ الْكُمَّيْنِ.
“The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) wore a Byzantine robe with narrow sleeves.”
Muhammad ibn Sirin said
قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: بَخْ بَخْ يَتَمَخَّطُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ فِى الْكَتَّانِ. لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي وَإِنِّى لأَخِرُّ فِيمَا بَيْنَ مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وحُجْرَةِ عَائِشَةَ رضي الله عنها مَغْشِيًّا عَلَيَّّ، فَيَجِىءُ الْجَائِى فَيَضَعُ رِجْلَهُ عَلَى عُنُقِى، يُرَى أَنّ بِي جْنُونٌا، وَمَا بِي جُنُونٍ، ومَا هو إِلاَّ الْجُوعُ.
We were in the presence of Abu Huraira, and he was wearing two linen garments dyed with red clay. He blew his nose in one of them, then said: “Bravo! Bravo! Abu Huraira is blowing his nose in the linen! I had found myself (in the past) as I would drop between the pulpit of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) and the room of 'A'isha (may Allah be well pleased with her) falling unconscious, so the one who would come (by) would come then plant his foot on my neck, supposing I was afflicted with insanity, though I was not afflicted with insanity, and it was merely hunger.”
Malik ibn Dinar said
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ , حَدَّثَنَا جعفر بن سليمان الضبعي , عن مالك بن دينار قال: مَا شَبِعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنْ خُبْزٍ قَط , وَلَحم إِلاَّ عَلى ضفَفَ.
"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) never ate his fill of bread, nor of meat, except at a meal in the company of many diners.”
Ibn Buraida reported that his father said
حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ دَلْهَمِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ حُجَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، عَنِ ابْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّجَاشِيَّ أَهْدَى لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، خُفَّيْنِ، أَسْوَدَيْنِ، سَاذَجَيْنِ، فَلَبِسَهُمَا ثُمَّ تَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَيْهِمَا.
"The Negus gave the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) a pair of plain black shoes, so he put them on, then performed the minor ritual ablution and wiped over them.”
Al-Mughira ibn Shu'ba said
قَالَ: قَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ: أَهْدَى دِحْيَةُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم خُفَّيْنِ، فَلَبِسَهُمَا وَقَالَ إِسْرَائِيلُ: عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ، وَجُبَّةً فَلَبِسَهُمَا حَتَّى تَخَرَّقَا لا يَدْرِي النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، أَذِكًى هُمَا أَمْ لا. قال أبو عيسى: وأبو إسحاق هذا هو أبو إسحاق الشيباني واسمه سليمان.
"Dihya a gown, so he wore the shoes until they were perforated, without the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) knowing whether or not they were made from the hide of a lawfully slaughtered animal.”
Qatada said; “I asked Anas ibn Malik
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ، عَنْ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ: كَيْفَ كَانَ نَعْلُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم؟ قَالَ: لَهُمَا قِبَالانِ.
‘How were the sandals of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)?’ He said: ‘They had two thongs'.”
Ibn 'Abbas said
قَالَ: كَانَ لِنَعْلِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قِبَالانِ، مَثْنِيٌّ شِرَاكَهُمَا.
"The sandals of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) had two thongs with double laces.”
'Isa ibn Tahman said
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ طَهْمَانَ، قَالَ: أَخْرَجَ إِلَيْنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ نَعْلَيْنِ جَرْدَاوَيْنِ، لَهُمَا قِبَالانِ. قَالَ : فَحَدَّثَنِي ثَابِتٌ بَعْدُ عَنْ أَنَسُ ، أَنَّهُمَا كَانَتَا نَعْلَيِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
"Anas ibn Malik brought out to us a pair of hairless sandals with two thongs. Then Thabit told me afterwards, on the authority of Anas, that they were the sandals of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace).”
'Ubaid ibn Juraij said to Ibn 'Umar
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ لابْنِ عُمَرَ: رَأَيْتُكَ تَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ السِّبْتِيَّةَ، قَالَ: إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَلْبَسُ النِّعَالَ الَّتِي لَيْسَ فِيهَا شَعَرٌ، وَيَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهَا، فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَلْبَسَهَا.
"I saw you wearing the tanned ox-hide sandals with no hair on them ." He replied: "I saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) wearing the sandals on which there is no hair, and he performed the minor ritual ablution in them, so I love to wear them!”
Abu Huraira said
قَالَ: كَانَ لِنَعْلِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قِبَالانِ.
"The sandals of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) had two thongs."
Amr ibn Huraith said
قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ، سَمِعَ عَمْرَو بْنَ حُرَيْثٍ، يَقُولُ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يُصَلِّي فِي نَعْلَيْنِ مَخْصُوفَتَيْنِ.
"I saw Allah's Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) performing the ritual prayer in sewn sandals.”
Abu Hurairah reports that Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace)
قَالَ: لا يَمْشِيَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي نَعْلٍ وَاحِدَةٍ، لِيُنْعِلْهُمَا جَمِيعًا، أَوْ لِيُحْفِهِمَا جَمِيعًا. حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ نَحْوَهُ.
“Let none of you walk in a single sandal. Let him wear them both or take them both off!”
