Ali ibn Abi Talib said (may Allah ennoble his countenance)
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا مَشَى، تَكَفَّأَ تَكَفُّؤًا، كَأَنَّمَا يَنْحَطُّ مِنْ صَبَبٍ.
"When the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) walked, he inclined forward as if he were descending a declivity.”
Anas ibn Malik said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُكْثِرُ الْقِنَاعَ، كَأَنَّ ثَوْبَهُ ثَوْبُ زَيَّاتٍ.
“Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) would often wear the head veil, as if his robe was the robe of an oil dealer.”
'Abdu’llah ibn Hassan reported on the authority of his grandmothers
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَتْ: فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، الْمُتَخَشِّعَ فِي الْجِلْسَةِ، أُرْعِدْتُ مِنَ الْفَرَقِ.
Qaila bint Makhrama said that she saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) in the mosque squatting on his heels. She said: "When I saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) displaying humility in the mosque, I trembled with fright."
'Abbad ibn Tamim reported
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ، قَالُوا: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ، أَنَّهُ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مُسْتَلْقِيًا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ وَاضِعًا إِحْدَى رِجْلَيْهِ عَلَى الأُخْرَى.
His paternal uncle said that he saw the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) lying on his back in the mosque, placing one of his legs over the other.
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، عَنْ رُبَيْحِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، احْتَبَى بِيَدَيْهِ.
“When Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) sat in the mosque, he pressed his legs against his stomach with his hands.”
Jabir ibn Samura said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ عَلَى يَسَارِهِ.
"I saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) leaning on a cushion on his left side.”
'Abd ar-Rahman ibn Abi Bakra reported that his father Abu Bakra said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: أَلا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِأَكْبَرِ الْكَبَائِرِ؟ قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ: الإِشْرَاكُ بِاللَّهِ، وَعُقُوقُ الْوَالِدَيْنِ قَالَ: وَجَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَكَانَ مُتَّكِئًا، قَالَ: وَشَهَادَةُ الزُّورِ، أَوْ قَوْلُ الزُّورِ، قَالَ: فَمَا زَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَقُولُهَا حَتَّى قُلْنَا: لَيْتَهُ سَكَتَ.
“Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘Should I tell you about the greatest of the major sins?’ They said: ‘Yes indeed, O Messenger of Allah!’ He said: ‘Associating partners with Allah, and recalcitrance against parents.’ Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) sat down, and he was leaning on a support. He added: '...and false testimony’ or: ‘false speech.’ Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) went on speaking until we said: ‘If only he would keep silent!”
Abu Juhaifa said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: أَمَّا أَنَا، فَلا آكُلُ مُتَّكِئًا.
"Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace):‘As for me, I do not eat while leaning on a support!’”
Abu Juhaifa said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الأَقْمَرِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جُحَيْفَةَ، يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: لا آكُلُ مُتَّكِئًا.
"Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'I do not eat while leaning on a support! I do not eat while leaning on a support'!”
Jabir ibn Samura said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم مُتَّكِئًا عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ،.
"I saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) leaning on a cushion.”
Anas said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ شَاكِيًا، فَخَرَجَ يَتَوَكَّأُ عَلَى أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ وَعَلَيْهِ ثَوْبٌ قِطْرِيٌّ، قَدْ تَوَشَّحَ بِهِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ.
“The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) was feeling ill, so he came out leaning on Usama ibn Zaid wearing an outer garment of coarse cotton fabric, which he had thrown on loosely, after which he led them in the ritual prayer.”
Al-Fadl ibn Abbas said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الْخَفَّافُ الْحَلَبِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ بُرْقَانَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ، عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فِي مَرَضِهِ الَّذِي تُوُفِّيَ فِيهِ، وَعَلَى رَأْسِهِ عِصَابَةٌ صَفْرَاءُ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: يَا فَضْلُ قُلْتُ: لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قَالَ: اشْدُدْ بِهَذِهِ الْعِصَابَةِ رَأْسِي قَالَ: فَفَعَلْتُ، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ فَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ عَلَى مَنْكِبِي، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَدَخَلَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ.
"I went in to see Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) during his illness in which he died, and on his head there was a yellow band. I greeted him with the salutation of peace, so he said: 'O Fadl!”'I said: 'Doubly at your service, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'Wrap my head firmly with this band!' I acted accordingly, then he sat and placed the palm of his hand on my shoulder. Then he stood up and entered the mosque.” (This tradition is part of a longer story.)
Reported on the authority of Ibn al-Ka'b ibn Malik, that his father said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنِ ابْنٍ لِكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يَلْعَقُ أَصَابِعَهُ ثَلاثًا.
"The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to lick his fingers three times.”
Anas said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا أَكَلَ طَعَامًا لَعِقَ أَصَابِعَهُ الثَّلاثَ.
“When the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) ate a meal, he used to lick his three fingers .”
Abu Juhaifa said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ يَعْنِي الْحَضْرَمِيَّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الأَقْمَرِ، عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم: أَمَّا أَنَا فَلا آكُلُ مُتَّكِئًا. حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الأَقْمَرِ , نَحْوَهُ.
“The Prophet said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'As for me, I do not eat while leaning on a support'!”
Ibn al-Ka'b ibn Malik reported that his father said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْكُلُ بِأَصَابِعِهِ، الثَّلاثِ وَيَلْعَقُهُنَّ.
"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to eat with his three fingers and afterwards he would lick them.”
Anas ibn Malik say
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، يَقُولُ: أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِتَمْرٍ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَأْكُلُ وَهُوَ مُقْعٍ مِنَ الْجُوعِ.
"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was brought some dried dates, and I saw him eat while he was hunched over from hunger.”
'A’isha said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: مَا شَبِعَ آلُ مُحَمَّدٍ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنْ خُبْزِ الشَّعِيرِ يَوْمَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ حَتَّى قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم.
"The family of Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) did not satisfy their appetite with barley-bread for before even two consecutive days until Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was taken from this world.”
Abu Umama al-Bahili say
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَرِيزُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ سُلَيْمِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيَّ، يَقُولُ: مَا كَانَ يَفْضُلُ عَنِ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خُبْزُ الشَّعِيرِ.
"There was never more than a bare sufficiency of barley- bread for the people of the household of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace).”
Ibn 'Abbas said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَبِيتُ اللَّيَالِيَ الْمُتَتَابِعَةَ طَاوِيًا هُوَ وَأَهْلُهُ، لا يَجِدُونُ عِشَاءً وَكَانَ أَكْثَرُ خُبْزِهِمْ، خُبْزَ الشَّعِيرِ.
"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to spend night after night starving. He and his family would not have any supper to eat, and most of their bread was barley-bread.”
