Ibn 'Abbas said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنَ الْغَائِطِ فَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: أَلا تَتَوَضَّأُ؟ فَقَالَ: أَأُصَلِّي، فَأَتَوَضَّأُ.
"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) emerged from having a bowel movement and he was brought a meal, so he was asked: 'Will you not perform the minor ritual ablution?' He replied: “Am I about to perform the ritual prayer, so that I should perform the minor ritual ablution'?”

dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ (ح) وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ الْجُرْجَانِيُّ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ، عَنْ زَاذَانَ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ، أَنَّ بَرَكَةَ الطَّعَامِ الْوُضُوءُ بَعْدَهُ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِمَا قَرَأْتُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: بَرَكَةُ الطَّعَامِ الْوُضُوءُ قَبْلَهُ، وَالْوُضُوءُ بَعْدَهُ.
“I read in the Torah that the blessing of the meal is the minor ritual ablution after it, so I mentioned this to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and I informed him of what I had read in the Torah. Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) then said: ‘The blessing of the meal is the minor ritual ablution before it and the minor ritual ablution after it'!”
Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَوْمًا، فَقَرَّبَ طَعَامًا، فَلَمْ أَرَ طَعَامًا كَانَ أَعْظَمَ بَرَكَةً مِنْهُ، أَوَّلَ مَا أَكَلْنَا، وَلا أَقَلَّ بَرَكَةً فِي آخِرِهِ، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَيْفَ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: إِنَّا ذَكَرْنَا اسْمَ اللهِ حِينَ أَكَلْنَا، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ مَنْ أَكَلَ وَلَمْ يُسَمِّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى فَأَكَلَ مَعَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ.
"We were in the home of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) one day, and he served a meal. I had never seen a meal from which greater blessing was obtained at the beginning of our eating, nor less blessing at the end of it, so we said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how is this?' He said: 'We mentioned the Name of Allah when we ate. Then someone who ate sat down and did not pronounce the Name of Allah (Exalted is He), so Satan ate with him!’”
'A’isha said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ، فَنَسِيَ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى عَلَى طَعَامِهِ، فَلْيَقُلْ: بِسْمِ اللهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ.
“Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘If one of you eats and forgets to mention Allah (Exalted is He) during his meal, let him say: B'ismillah awwalahu wa akhirahu, which means, 'In the name of Allah at its beginning and at its end'.”
'Umar ibn Abi Salama said that he went in to see Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), who had a meal before him, so he said to him
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: ادْنُ يَا بُنَيَّ، فَسَمِّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى، وَكُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ، وَكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيكَ.
'O my dear son, pronounce the Name of Allah(Exalted is He), eat with your right hand, and eat what is directly in front of you!’”
Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ، عَنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رِيَاحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رِيَاحِ بْنِ عَبِيدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ طَعَامِهِ، قَالَ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا وَسَقَانَا وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ.
“Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to say, when he had finished his meal: ‘Praise be to Allah, who has fed us and quenched our thirst, and has made us Muslims'!”
Abu Umama said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا رُفِعَتِ الْمَائِدَةُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ، يَقُولُ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ، غَيْرَ مُودَعٍ، وَلا مُسْتَغْنًى عَنْهُ رَبَّنَا.
“When the table was removed from in front of him, Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to say: ‘Much fine blessed praise to Allah! It is neither the last of our food, nor can it be dispensed with, O our Lord'!”
'Aisha said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْكُلُ الطَّعَامَ فِي سِتَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ، فَأَكَلَهُ بِلُقْمَتَيْنِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: لَوْ سَمَّى لَكَفَاكُمْ.
"The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) was eating with six of his Companions, when a Bedouin came and devoured it in two mouthfuls, so Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'If he had invoked the Name of Allah, it would have been enough for you all'!”
Anas ibn Malik said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَيَرْضَى عَنِ الْعَبْدِ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ الأَكْلَةَ، أَوْ يَشْرَبَ الشَّرْبَةَ فَيَحْمَدَهُ عَلَيْهَا.
"Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'Allah is surely well pleased with the servant’s eating and praising Him for the food, or drinking and praising Him for the drink'!”
Thabit said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ طَهْمَانَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، قَالَ: أَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، قَدَحَ خَشَبٍ، غَلِيظًا، مُضَبَّبًا بِحَدِيدٍ، فَقَالَ: يَا ثَابِتُ، هَذَا قَدَحُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم.
“Anas ibn Malik brought out to us a wooden drinking vessel, roughly clamped with iron, then he said: ‘O Ihabit, this is the drinking vessel of Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)'!”
Anas said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: أَنْبَأَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، وَثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ: لَقَدْ سَقَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، بِهَذَا الْقَدَحِ الشَّرَابَ كُلَّهُ، الْمَاءَ، وَالنَّبِيذَ، وَالْعَسَلَ، وَاللَّبَنَ.
"I had given Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) every kind of beverage to drink using this vessel: water, date juice, honey and milk.”
'Abdullah ibn Ja'far said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَأْكُلُ الْقِثَّاءَ بِالرُّطَبِ.
"The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to eat cucumbers with ripe dates.”
'A’isha said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْخُزَاعِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، كَانَ يَأْكُلُ الْبِطِّيخَ بِالرُّطَبِ.
(may Allah be well pleased with her): "The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to eat watermelon with ripe dates.”
Anas ibn Malik said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ حُمَيْدًا، أَوْ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ، قَالَ وَهْبٌ: وَكَانَ صَدِيقًا لَهُ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ الْخِرْبِزِ وَالرُّطَبِ.
"I saw Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) combine watermelon and ripe dates.”
A’isha(may Allah be well pleased with her) said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الصَّلْتِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رُومَانَ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَكَلَ الْبِطِّيخَ بِالرُّطَبِ.
“The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) ate watermelon with ripe dates.”
Abu Huraira said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: كَانَ النَّاسُ إِذَا رَأَوْا أَوَّلَ الثَّمَرِ جَاءُوا بِهِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَإِذَا أَخَذَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، قَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِي ثِمَارِنَا، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي مَدِينَتِنَا، وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِنَا وَفِي مُدِّنَا، اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَبْدُكَ وَخَلِيلُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ، وَإِنِّي عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ، وَإِنَّهُ دَعَاكَ لِمَكَّةَ، وَإِنِّي أَدْعُوكَ لِلْمَدِينَةِ، بِمِثْلِ مَا دَعَاكَ بِهِ لِمَكَّةَ وَمِثْلِهِ مَعَهُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ يَدْعُو أَصْغَرَ وَلِيدٍ يَرَاهُ، فَيُعْطِيهِ ذَلِكَ الثَّمَرَ.
“When the people saw the first fruit and Your Prophet, and I am Your servant and Your Prophet. He supplicated You on behalf of Mecca, and I supplicate You on behalf of Medina, for the like of what he supplicated You for on behalf of Mecca, and the like thereof as well!’ Then he would summon the youngest child he saw and give him that fruit.”
Ar-Rubai bint Mu'awwidh ibn 'Afra’ said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَتْ: بَعَثَنِي مُعَاذُ بْنُ عَفْرَاءَ بِقِنَاعٍ مِنْ رُطَبٍ وَعَلَيْهِ أَجْرٌ مِنْ قِثَّاءِ زُغْبٍ وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُحِبُّ الْقِثَّاءَ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهِ وَعِنْدَهُ حِلْيَةٌ قَدْ قَدِمَتْ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ، فَمَلأَ يَدَهُ مِنْهَا فَأَعْطَانِيهِ.
"Mu'adh ibn 'Afra sent me with a tray of ripe dates, and on it there were pieces of fluffy cucumber. He (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to love cucumbers, so I brought them to him. He had with him some ornaments that had come to him from Bahrain, so he took a handful of them and gave it to me."
Ar-Rubai bint Mu'awwidh ibn 'Afra said
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَتْ: أَتيتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، بِقِنَاعٍ مِنْ رُطَبٍ، وَأَجْرٍ زُغْبٍ، فَأَعْطَانِي مِلْءَ كَفِّهِ حُلِيًّا أَوْ قَالَتْ: ذَهَبًا.
"I brought the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) a tray of ripe dates and fluffy cucumber, so he gave me a handful of ornaments, or she said: of gold.”
'A’isha said (may Allah be well pleased with her)
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَتْ: كَانَ أَحَبَّ الشَّرَابِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، الْحُلْوُ الْبَارِدُ.
"The beverage dearest to Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was cold water sweetened with honey.”
Ibn 'Abbas said (may Allah be well pleased with him and his father)
dansShama'il Muhammadiyahقَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: دَخَلْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، أَنَا، وَخَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ عَلَى مَيْمُونَةَ، فَجَاءَتْنَا بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ، فَشَرِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَأَنَا عَلَى يَمِينِهِ، وَخَالِدٌ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ، فَقَالَ لِي: الشَّرْبَةُ لَكَ، فَإِنْ شِئِتَ آثَرْتَ بِهَا خَالِدًا، فَقُلْتُ: مَا كُنْتُ لأُوثِرَ عَلَى سُؤْرِكَ أَحدًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: مَنْ أَطْعَمَهُ اللَّهُ طَعَامًا، فَلْيَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ، وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ، وَمَنْ سَقَاهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَبَنًا، فَلْيَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ، وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ يُجْزِئُ مَكَانَ الطَّعَامِ وَالشَّرَابِ، غَيْرُ اللَّبَنِ.
"Together with Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), Khalid ibn al-Walid and I entered the presence of Maimuna, whereupon she brought us a vessel of milk and Allah’s Messenger drank (Allah bless him and give him peace), while I was on his right side and Khalid was on his left. He said to me: 'The drink is yours, but if you wish, you may let Khalid have it.' I said: 'I wouldn't give up your leftover drink for anyone!' Then Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'If Allah feeds someone a meal, let him say: ‘O Allah, bless us in it, and give us something even better!’ If Allah (Almighty and Glorious is He) gives a person some milk to drink, let him say: ‘O Allah, bless us in it, and grant us more of it!’ Then Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): 'Nothing but milk can substitute for both food and drink'!"
