It was narrated that Khuzaimah bin Jaz’ said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ جِئْتُكَ لأَسْأَلَكَ عَنْ أَحْنَاشِ الأَرْضِ مَا تَقُولُ فِي الضَّبِّ قَالَ " لاَ آكُلُهُ وَلاَ أُحَرِّمُهُ " . قَالَ قُلْتُ فَإِنِّي آكُلُ مِمَّا لَمْ تُحَرِّمْ وَلِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ " فُقِدَتْ أُمَّةٌ مِنَ الأُمَمِ وَرَأَيْتُ خَلْقًا رَابَنِي " . قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا تَقُولُ فِي الأَرْنَبِ قَالَ لاَ آكُلُهُ وَلاَ أُحَرِّمُهُ " . قُلْتُ فَإِنِّي آكُلُ مِمَّا لَمْ تُحَرِّمْ وَلِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ " نُبِّئْتُ أَنَّهَا تَدْمَى " .
“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have come to you to ask you about the vermin of the earth. What do you say about mastigures?’ He said: ‘I do not eat them and I do not forbid them.’ I said: ‘I will eat of that which you have not forbidden. But why (do you not eat them), O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘One of the nations was turned into beasts and I looked at this creature and was uncertain.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about rabbits?’ He said: ‘I do not eat them and I do not forbid them.’ I said: ‘I will eat of that which you have not forbidden. But why (do you not eat them), O Messenger of Allah?’ He said: ‘I have been told that it menstruates.’”
Mughirah bin Abu Burdah, who was of the tribe of Banu ‘Abd-Dar, narrated that he heard Abu Hurairah say
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " الْبَحْرُ الطَّهُورُ مَاؤُهُ الْحِلُّ مَيْتَتُهُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بَلَغَنِي عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ الْجَوَادِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ هَذَا نِصْفُ الْعِلْمِ لأَنَّ الدُّنْيَا بَرٌّ وَبَحْرٌ فَقَدْ أَفْتَاكَ فِي الْبَحْرِ وَبَقِيَ الْبَرُّ .
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘The water of the sea is a means of purification and its dead meat is permissible.’”
It was narrated from Jabir bin ‘Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " مَا أَلْقَى الْبَحْرُ أَوْ جَزَرَ عَنْهُ فَكُلُوهُ وَمَا مَاتَ فِيهِ فَطَفَا فَلاَ تَأْكُلُوهُ " .
“Whatever the sea throws out or is left behind when the tide ebbs, eat it, but whatever rises to its surface, do not eat it.’”
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ مَنْ يَأْكُلُ الْغُرَابَ وَقَدْ سَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " فَاسِقًا " . وَاللَّهِ مَا هُوَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ .
“Who eats crows? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called them vermin, By Allah, they are not from among the good and permissible things.”
It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ " الْحَيَّةُ فَاسِقَةٌ وَالْعَقْرَبُ فَاسِقَةٌ وَالْفَأْرَةُ فَاسِقَةٌ وَالْغُرَابُ فَاسِقٌ " . فَقِيلَ لِلْقَاسِمِ أَيُؤْكَلُ الْغُرَابُ قَالَ مَنْ يَأْكُلُهُ بَعْدَ قَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " فَاسِقٌ " .
“Snakes are vermin, scorpions are vermin, mice are vermin and crows are vermin.”
It was narrated that Jabir said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ عَنْ أَكْلِ الْهِرَّةِ وَثَمَنِهَا.
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade eating cats and he forbade their price.”
‘Abdullah bin Salam said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ لَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ الْمَدِينَةَ انْجَفَلَ النَّاسُ قِبَلَهُ وَقِيلَ قَدْ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَدْ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ قَدْ قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ . ثَلاَثًا فَجِئْتُ فِي النَّاسِ لأَنْظُرَ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنْتُ وَجْهَهُ عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ وَجْهَهُ لَيْسَ بِوَجْهِ كَذَّابٍ فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ شَىْءٍ سَمِعْتُهُ تَكَلَّمَ بِهِ أَنْ قَالَ " يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ أَفْشُوا السَّلاَمَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ وَصِلُوا الأَرْحَامَ وَصَلُّوا بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّاسُ نِيَامٌ تَدْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِسَلاَمٍ " .
“When the Prophet (ﷺ) came to Al-Madinah, the people rushed to meet him, and it was said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has come! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has come! The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has come!’ Three times. I came with the people to see him, and when I saw his face clearly, I knew that his face was not the face of a liar. The first thing I heard him say was when he said: ‘O people! Spread (the greeting of) Salam, feed others, uphold the ties of kinship, and pray during the night when people are sleeping, and you will enter Paradise with Salam.”*
‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar used to say that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى حُدِّثْنَا عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ، كَانَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ " أَفْشُوا السَّلاَمَ وَأَطْعِمُوا الطَّعَامَ وَكُونُوا إِخْوَانًا كَمَا أَمَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
“Spread (the greeting og) Salam, offer food (to the needy), and be brothers as Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has honored you.”
It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الإِسْلاَمِ خَيْرٌ قَالَ " تُطْعِمُ الطَّعَامَ وَتَقْرَأُ السَّلاَمَ عَلَى مَنْ عَرَفْتَ وَمَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفْ " .
“O Messenger of Allah, which (aspect) of Islam is the best?” He said: “Offering food (to the needy) and greeting with Salam those whom you know and those whom you do not know.”
It was narrated from Jabir bin ‘Abdullah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الاِثْنَيْنِ وَطَعَامُ الاِثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الأَرْبَعَةَ وَطَعَامُ الأَرْبَعَةِ يَكْفِي الثَّمَانِيَةَ " .
“The food of one person is sufficient for two, the food of two is sufficient for four, and the food for four is sufficient for eight.”
It was narrated from ‘Umar bin Khattab that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " إِنَّ طَعَامَ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الاِثْنَيْنِ وَإِنَّ طَعَامَ الاِثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الثَّلاَثَةَ وَالأَرْبَعَةَ وَإِنَّ طَعَامَ الأَرْبَعَةِ يَكْفِي الْخَمْسَةَ وَالسِّتَّةَ " .
“The food of one is sufficient for two, and the food of two is sufficient for three or four, and the food of four is sufficient for five or six.’”
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " الْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ " .
“The believer eats with one intestine and the disbeliever eats with seven intestines.’”
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ " الْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ وَالْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ " .
“The disbeliever eats with seven intestines and the believer eats with one intestine.”
It was narrated from Abu Musa that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " الْمُؤْمِنُ يَأْكُلُ فِي مِعًى وَاحِدٍ وَالْكَافِرُ يَأْكُلُ فِي سَبْعَةِ أَمْعَاءٍ " .
“The believer eats with one intestine and the disbeliever eats with seven intestines.”
It was narrated from Abu Hazim that Abu Hurairah said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ مَا عَابَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ طَعَامًا قَطُّ إِنْ رَضِيَهُ أَكَلَهُ وَإِلاَّ تَرَكَهُ . حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ أَبِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ مِثْلَهُ . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ نُخَالِفُ فِيهِ يَقُولُونَ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ .
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) never criticized any food. If it pleased him, he would eat it and if it did not he would leave it.” Another chain reports the same.
Kathir bin Sulaim narrated that he heard Anas bin Malik say
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " مَنْ أَحَبَّ أَنْ يُكْثِرَ اللَّهُ خَيْرَ بَيْتِهِ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ إِذَا حَضَرَ غَدَاؤُهُ وَإِذَا رُفِعَ " .
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘Whoever would like Allah to increase the goodness of his house, should perform ablution (wash hands) when his breakfast is brought to him and when it is taken away.’”
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out to toilet, then food was brought. A man said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَلاَ آتِيكَ بِوَضُوءٍ قَالَ " أُرِيدُ الصَّلاَةَ " .
“O Messenger of Allah, are you not going to perform ablution?” He said: ‘Am I going to pray?’
It was narrated from Abu Juhaifah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ " لاَ آكُلُ مُتَّكِئًا " .
“I do not eat while reclining.”
‘Abdullah bin Busr said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ أَهْدَيْتُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ شَاةً فَجَثَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ يَأْكُلُ فَقَالَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ مَا هَذِهِ الْجِلْسَةُ فَقَالَ " إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَعَلَنِي عَبْدًا كَرِيمًا وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْنِي جَبَّارًا عَنِيدًا " .
“I gave the Prophet (ﷺ) a gift of a sheep, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat on his knees to eat. A Bedouin said: ‘What is this sitting?’ He said: ‘Allah has made me a humble and generous slave (of Allah) and has not made me arrogant and stubborn.’”
It was narrated that ‘Aishah said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَأْكُلُ طَعَامًا فِي سِتَّةِ نَفَرٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَجَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَأَكَلَهُ بِلُقْمَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ " أَمَا أَنَّهُ لَوْ كَانَ قَالَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ لَكَفَاكُمْ فَإِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ طَعَامًا فَلْيَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فَإِنْ نَسِيَ أَنْ يَقُولَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ " .
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was eating food with six of his Companions when a Bedouin came and ate it all in two bites. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘If he had said Bismillah, it would have sufficed you (all). When any one of you eats food, let him say Bismillah, and if he forgets to say Bismillah at the beginning, let him say Bismillah fi awwalihi wa akhirih (In the Name of Allah at the beginning and at the end).’”
