It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " الرَّجُلُ أَحَقُّ بِهِبَتِهِ مَا لَمْ يُثَبْ مِنْهَا " .
“A man has more right to his gift so long as he has not gotten something in return for it.”
It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father that he delivered
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ فِي خُطْبَةٍ خَطَبَهَا " لاَ يَجُوزُ لاِمْرَأَةٍ فِي مَالِهَا إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِ زَوْجِهَا إِذَا هُوَ مَلَكَ عِصْمَتَهَا " .
“It is not permissible for a woman to dispose of her wealth except with her husband's permission, once he has married her.”
It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Yahya, one of the sons of Ka'b bin Malik, from his grandfather, that
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَتْ إِنِّي تَصَدَّقْتُ بِهَذَا فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " لاَ يَجُوزُ لِلْمَرْأَةِ فِي مَالِهَا إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِ زَوْجِهَا فَهَلِ اسْتَأْذَنْتِ كَعْبًا " . قَالَتْ نَعَمْ . فَبَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ زَوْجِهَا فَقَالَ " هَلْ أَذِنْتَ لِخَيْرَةَ أَنْ تَتَصَدَّقَ بِحُلِيِّهَا " . فَقَالَ نَعَمْ . فَقَبِلَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنْهَا .
his grandmother Khairah, the wife of Ka'b bin Malik, came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) with some jewelry belonging to her and said, I am giving this in charity. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to her: “It is not permissible for a woman to dispose of her wealth without her husband's permission. Did you ask Ka'b's permission?” She said: “Yes.” So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent for Ka'b bin Malik, her husband, and said, “Did you give Khairah permission to give her jewelry in charity?” He said: “Yes.” So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) accepted it from her.
It was narrated from 'Umar bin Khattab that
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ " لاَ تَعُدْ فِي صَدَقَتِكَ " .
the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Do not take back your charity.”
'Abdullah bin 'Abbas narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَتَصَدَّقُ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ فِي صَدَقَتِهِ مَثَلُ الْكَلْبِ يَقِيءُ ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ فَيَأْكُلُ قَيْئَهُ " .
“The likeness of the one who gives charity then takes it back is that of a dog who vomits then goes back and eats its vomit.”
It was narrated from 'Umar, meaning, from his father, his grandfather 'Umar, that
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ " لاَ تَبْتَعْ صَدَقَتَكَ " .
he gave a horse in charity at the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), then he saw its owner selling it for a low price. He went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and asked him about that, and he said: “Do not buy what you gave in charity.”
It was narrated from Zubair bin 'Awwam that
dansSunan Ibn Majahحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ، أَنَّهُ حَمَلَ عَلَى فَرَسٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ غَمْرٌ أَوْ غَمْرَةٌ فَرَأَى مُهْرًا أَوْ مُهْرَةً مِنْ أَفْلاَئِهَا يُبَاعُ يُنْسَبُ إِلَى فَرَسِهِ فَنَهَى عَنْهَا .
he gave a horse called Ghamr or Ghamrah to someone, then he saw one of its colts or fillies attributed to his horse being sold, but he refrained from (buging) it.
It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin Buraidah that his father said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي تَصَدَّقْتُ عَلَى أُمِّي بِجَارِيَةٍ وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ . فَقَالَ " آجَرَكِ اللَّهُ وَرَدَّ عَلَيْكِ الْمِيرَاثَ " .
“A woman came to-the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), I gave my mother a slave girl of mine, and she has died.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Allah (SWT) has rewarded you, and returned to you your inheritance (without your seeking that.' ”
It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, that his grandfather said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَعْطَيْتُ أُمِّي حَدِيقَةً لِي وَإِنَّهَا مَاتَتْ وَلَمْ تَتْرُكْ وَارِثًا غَيْرِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " وَجَبَتْ صَدَقَتُكَ وَرَجَعَتْ إِلَيْكَ حَدِيقَتُكَ " .
“A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: 'I gave my mother a garden of mine, and she has died and has no other heir but me.' The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said: 'Your charity is valid and your garden has been returned to you.' ”
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ أَصَابَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ أَرْضًا بِخَيْبَرَ فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَاسْتَأْمَرَهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ مَالاً بِخَيْبَرَ لَمْ أُصِبْ مَالاً قَطُّ هُوَ أَنْفَسُ عِنْدِي مِنْهُ فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي بِهِ فَقَالَ " إِنْ شِئْتَ حَبَسْتَ أَصْلَهَا وَتَصَدَّقْتَ بِهَا " . قَالَ فَعَمِلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ عَلَى أَنْ لاَ يُبَاعَ أَصْلُهَا وَلاَ يُوهَبَ وَلاَ يُورَثَ تَصَدَّقَ بِهَا لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَفِي الْقُرْبَى وَفِي الرِّقَابِ وَفِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ وَالضَّيْفِ لاَ جُنَاحَ عَلَى مَنْ وَلِيَهَا أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْهَا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ أَوْ يُطْعِمَ صَدِيقًا غَيْرَ مُتَمَوِّلٍ .
“Umar bin Khattab acquired some land at Khaibar, and he came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and consulted him. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah(ﷺ), I have been given some wealth at Khaibar and I have never been given any wealth that is more precious to me than it. What do you command me to do with it? He said: 'If you wish, you can make it an endowment and give (its produce) in charity.' So 'Umar gave it on the basis that it would not be sold, given away or inherited, and (its produce) was to be given to the poor, to relatives, for freeing slaves, in the cause of Allah, to way fares and to guests; and there was nothing wrong if a person appointed to be in charge of it consumed from it on a reasonable basis or feeding a fried, without accumulating it for himself.”
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ الْمِائَةَ سَهْمٍ الَّتِي بِخَيْبَرَ لَمْ أُصِبْ مَالاً قَطُّ هُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَىَّ مِنْهَا وَقَدْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ بِهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم " احْبِسْ أَصْلَهَا وَسَبِّلْ ثَمَرَتَهَا " . قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ فَوَجَدْتُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ فِي كِتَابِي عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ .
“Umar bin Khattab said: 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), the one hundred shares of the Khaibar I have never been given any wealth that is more beloved to me than them, and I wanted to give them in charity.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Make it an endowment and give its produce in the cause of Allah (SWT).”
Shurahbil Muslim said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ، يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " الْعَارِيَةُ مُؤَدَّاةٌ وَالْمِنْحَةُ مَرْدُودَةٌ " .
I heard Abu Umamah say: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'Borrowed items are to be returned and an animal borrowed for milking is to be returned.”
It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " الْعَارِيَةُ مُؤَدَّاةٌ وَالْمِنْحَةُ مَرْدُودَةٌ " .
“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: 'Borrowed items are to be returned and an animal borrowed for milking is to be returned.' ”
It was narrated from Samurah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ " عَلَى الْيَدِ مَا أَخَذَتْ حَتَّى تُؤَدِّيَهُ " .
“The hand that takes is responsible for what it has taken until it returns it.”
It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, that his grandfather said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَنْ أُودِعَ وَدِيعَةً فَلاَ ضَمَانَ عَلَيْهِ " .
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever is entrusted with an item for safekeeping, is not responsible for it (so long as he is not negligent).' ”
It was narrated from 'Urwah Al-Bariqi that
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ فَكَانَ لَوِ اشْتَرَى التُّرَابَ لَرَبِحَ فِيهِ . حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَبَّانُ بْنُ هِلاَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْخِرِّيتِ، عَنْ أَبِي لَبِيدٍ، لِمَازَةَ بْنِ زَبَّارٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ الْبَارِقِيِّ، قَالَ قَدِمَ جَلَبٌ فَأَعْطَانِي النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم دِينَارًا فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَهُ .
the Prophet (ﷺ) gave him a Dinar to buy him a sheep, and he bought two sheep for him, then he sold one of them for a Dinar, and bought a Dinar and a sheep to the Prophet (ﷺ). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed for blessing for him.
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " الظُّلْمُ مَطْلُ الْغَنِيِّ وَإِذَا أُتْبِعَ أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى مَلِيءٍ فَلْيَتْبَعْ " .
“(Wrongdoing) is when a rich man takes a long time to repay a debt, and if one of you is referred to a rich man (to collect a debt), he should accept that referral.”
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مَطْلُ الْغَنِيِّ ظُلْمٌ وَإِذَا أُحِلْتَ عَلَى مَلِيءٍ فَاتْبَعْهُ " .
“When a rich man takes too long to repay a debt, this is wrongdoing, and if the debt is transferred to a rich man, you should accept if.”
Shurahbil bin Muslim Al-Khawlani said
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ الْبَاهِلِيَّ، يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ " الزَّعِيمُ غَارِمٌ وَالدَّيْنُ مَقْضِيٌّ " .
I heard Abu Umamah Al-Bahil say: “I heard the Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) say: “The guarantor is responsible and the debt must be repaid.' ”
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas
dansSunan Ibn Majahقَالَ مَا عِنْدِي شَىْءٌ أُعْطِيكَهُ فَقَالَ لاَ وَاللَّهِ لاَ أُفَارِقُكَ حَتَّى تَقْضِيَنِي أَوْ تَأْتِيَنِي بِحَمِيلٍ فَجَرَّهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم " كَمْ تَسْتَنْظِرُهُ " . فَقَالَ شَهْرًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم " فَأَنَا أَحْمِلُ لَهُ " . فَجَاءَهُ فِي الْوَقْتِ الَّذِي قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم " مِنْ أَيْنَ أَصَبْتَ هَذَا " . قَالَ مِنْ مَعْدِنٍ قَالَ " لاَ خَيْرَ فِيهَا " . وَقَضَاهَا عَنْهُ .
That during the time of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), a man pursued a debtor who owed him ten Dinar, and he said: “I do not have anything to give you.” He (the creditor) said: “No, by Allah, I will not leave you until you pay the debt or you bring me a guarantor.” Then he dragged him to the Prophet (ﷺ) and the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: “How long will you wait?” He said: “One month.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “I will be a guarantor for him.” Then he came to him at the time the Prophet (ﷺ) had said, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: “Where did you get this from?” He said: “From a mine.” He said: “There is nothing good in it,” and he paid the debt for him.
