It was narrated that Zirr bin Hubaish said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ اسْتَأْذَنَ ابْنُ جُرْمُوزٍ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالُوا ابْنُ جُرْمُوزٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ قَالَ ائْذَنُوا لَهُ لِيَدْخُلْ قَاتِلُ الزُّبَيْرِ النَّارَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ حَوَارِيًّا وَحَوَارِيَّ الزُّبَيْرُ.
Ibn Jurmooz asked for permission to enter upon ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه). He said: Who is this? They said: Jurmooz is asking for permission to enter upon you. He said: Let him in; let the killer of Az-Zubair enter the Fire, I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “Every Prophet (ﷺ) has a disciple and my disciple is Az-Zubair.”
It was narrated that Zirr bin Hubaish said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ اسْتَأْذَنَ ابْنُ جُرْمُوزٍ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَأَنَا عِنْدَهُ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بَشِّرْ قَاتِلَ ابْنِ صَفِيَّةَ بِالنَّارِ ثُمَّ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ حَوَارِيًّا وَحَوَارِيَّ الزُّبَيْرُ سَمِعْت سُفْيَانَ يَقُولُ الْحَوَارِيُّ النَّاصِرُ.
Ibn Jurmooz asked for permission to enter upon ‘Ali when I was with him, ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: Give the killer of Ibn Safiyyah the tidings of Hell. Then `Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: `Every Prophet (ﷺ) has a disciple and my disciple is Az-Zubair.` I heard Sufyan say: A disciple is a supporter.
حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، سَمِعَ عَاصِمَ بْنَ ضَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنْ الضُّحَى.
It was narrated from `Ali (رضي الله عنه) that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray at the time of the forenoon (duha).
It was narrated from Jareer bin Hayyan from his father that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ أَبْعَثُكَ فِيمَا بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُسَوِّيَ كُلَّ قَبْرٍ وَأَطْمِسَ كُلَّ صَنَمٍ.
I shall send you on the same mission as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me. Level every grave and destroy every idol.
It was narrated from Muhammad bin ‘Ali that his father said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ضَخْمَ الرَّأْسِ عَظِيمَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ هَدِبَ الْأَشْفَارِ مُشْرَبَ الْعَيْنِ بِحُمْرَةٍ كَثَّ اللِّحْيَةِ أَزْهَرَ اللَّوْنِ إِذَا مَشَى تَكَفَّأَ كَأَنَّمَا يَمْشِي فِي صُعُدٍ وَإِذَا الْتَفَتَ الْتَفَتَ جَمِيعًا شَثْنَ الْكَفَّيْنِ وَالْقَدَمَيْنِ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had a large head, big eyes, long eyelashes, reddish eyes, a thick beard, and a pinkish colour. When he walked he would lean forward as if he was walking uphill, and when he turned he would turn with his whole body. And he had large hands and feet.
حَدَّثَنِي أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُوتِرُ بِثَلَاثٍ.
It was narrated from ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) that The Prophet (ﷺ) used to pray Witr with three raka’hs
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ مَا أَحْدَثَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمَسَّ مَاءً وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited Qur’an after minor impurity before touching water, And perhaps Isra`eel said: from a man, from `Ali (رضي الله عنه), from the Prophet (ﷺ).
It was narrated that Mujahid said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ خَرَجْتُ فَأَتَيْتُ حَائِطًا قَالَ فَقَالَ دَلْوٌ بِتَمْرَةٍ قَالَ فَدَلَّيْتُ حَتَّى مَلَأْتُ كَفِّي ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ الْمَاءَ فَاسْتَعْذَبْتُ يَعْنِي شَرِبْتُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَطْعَمْتُهُ بَعْضَهُ وَأَكَلْتُ أَنَا بَعْضَهُ.
`Ali (رضي الله عنه) said: I set out and came to a garden and . Then I went to the water and drank from it. Then I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and gave him some of the dates to eat, and I ate some of them.
It was narrated that `Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَنْحَرَ نَاقَتِي وَكَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ قَالَ أَمَّا نَاقَتُكَ فَانْحَرْهَا وَأَمَّا كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ فَمِنْ الشَّيْطَانِ.
A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: I vowed to sacrifice my she-camel and to do such and such. He said: `As for your she camel, sacrifice it. But as for such and such, it is from the Shaitan.`
It was narrated that a man from Banu Asad said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَسَأَلُوهُ عَنْ الْوَتْرِ، قَالَ فَقَالَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نُوتِرَ هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ ثَوِّبْ يَا ابْنَ النَّبَّاحِ أَوْ أَذِّنْ أَوْ أَقِمْ.
`Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) came out to us and they asked him about Witr. He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded us to pray witr at this time. O Ibn An-Nabbah, give the adhan - or, say the iqamah.
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا تَقَدَّمَ إِلَيْكَ خَصْمَانِ فَلَا تَسْمَعْ كَلَامَ الْأَوَّلِ حَتَّى تَسْمَعَ كَلَامَ الْآخَرِ فَسَوْفَ تَرَى كَيْفَ تَقْضِي قَالَ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَمَا زِلْتُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ قَاضِيًا.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me. “When two disputants come to you, do not listen to the words of the first one until you have also listened to the words of the other, then you will know how to judge.` And ‘Ali (رضي الله عنها) said: Since then I have continued to be a good judge.
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَرَادَ سَفَرًا قَالَ بِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَصُولُ وَبِكَ أَجُولُ وَبِكَ أَسِيرُ.
When the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to travel he would say: `By Your help, O Allah, I move about and by Your help I travel and by Your help I walk.”
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ احْتَجَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُعْطِيَ الْحَجَّامَ أَجْرَهُ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was treated with cupping and he ordered me to pay the cupper his fee.
It was narrated that `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ أَمَرَنِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ آتِيَهُ بِطَبَقٍ يَكْتُبُ فِيهِ مَا لَا تَضِلُّ أُمَّتُهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ قَالَ فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ تَفُوتَنِي نَفْسُهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أَحْفَظُ وَأَعِي قَالَ أُوصِي بِالصَّلَاةِ وَالزَّكَاةِ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ.
The Prophet (ﷺ) wanted me to bring him something on which to write, by means of which his ummah would not be misguided after he was gone. “Ali said: I was afraid that he would die (before I could bring it). I said: I can memorise and understand. He said: “I urge you to pray and pay zakah and to be kind to those whom your right hands possess.”
It was narrated from `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) that The Prophet (ﷺ) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ فِي حُلْمِهِ كُلِّفَ عَقْدَ شَعِيرَةٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.
“Whoever tells a lie about seeing me in his dream will be ordered to tie a grain of barley on the Day of Resurrection.”
It was narrated that `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي اخْتِلَافٌ أَوْ أَمْرٌ فَإِنْ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ السِّلْمَ فَافْعَلْ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “After I am gone there will be a dispute or something; if you can adopt a peaceful stance, then do so.”
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ سَمَّى الْحَرْبَ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ خَدْعَةً قَالَ رَحْمَوَيْهِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّكُمْ.
Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, called war deceit on the lips of His Prophet. Zahmawaih said in his hadeeth: on the lips of your Prophet (ﷺ).
It was narrated from Sa’eed bin Dhu Huddan
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ ذِي، حُدَّانَ حَدَّثَنِي مَنْ، سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا، يَقُولُ الْحَرْبُ خَدْعَةٌ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
I was told by someone who heard `Ali say: War is deceit, on the lips of your Prophet (ﷺ) .
قَالَ فَقَسَمْتُهَا بَيْنَ نِسَائِي.
It was narrated from `Ali (رضي الله عنه) that The Prophet (ﷺ) was given a suit of pure silk. He sent it to me and I went to him in the evening wearing it. I recognised anger on the face of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).So I shared it among my womenfolk.
It was narrated from ‘Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) - Sufyan said. I think he attributed it to the Prophet (ﷺ) He said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ سُفْيَانُ لَا أَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا قَدْ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ مَنْ كَذَبَ فِي حُلْمِهِ كُلِّفَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَقْدَ شَعِيرَةٍ قَالَ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ قَالَ أُرَاهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
