It was narrated from `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) that The Prophet (ﷺ) came to him and Fatimah at night and said `Why don`t you get up and pray?” I said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ أَلَا تُصَلُّونَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا أَنْفُسُنَا بِيَدِ اللَّهِ فَإِذَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنَا بَعَثَنَا وَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ قُلْتُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ مُدْبِرٌ يَضْرِبُ فَخِذَهُ وَيَقُولُ {وَكَانَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا}.
O Messenger of Allah, our souls are in the hand of Allah and if He wills to wake us up, He will wake us up. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) left when I said that to him and I heard him, as he was leaving, strike his hand against his thigh and say: `But, man is ever more quarrelsome than anything` (al-Kahf:18:54).
It was narrated from `Ali bin Husain, from his father, from his grandfather, that The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) took Hasan and Husain by the hand and said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ مَنْ أَحَبَّنِي وَأَحَبَّ هَذَيْنِ وَأَبَاهُمَا وَأُمَّهُمَا كَانَ مَعِي فِي دَرَجَتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ.
“Whoever loves me and loves these two and their father and their mother will be with me at my level on the Day of Resurrection.`
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ عَلَى عَمَّتِهَا وَلَا عَلَى خَالَتِهَا.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: `No woman should be married and become a co-wife to her paternal aunt or her maternal aunt.”
It was narrated that ‘Abdullah bin Zurair said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ حَسَنٌ يَوْمَ الْأَضْحَى فَقَرَّبَ إِلَيْنَا خَزِيرَةً فَقُلْتُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللَّهُ لَوْ قَرَّبْتَ إِلَيْنَا مِنْ هَذَا الْبَطِّ يَعْنِي الْوَزَّ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ أَكْثَرَ الْخَيْرَ فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ زُرَيْرٍ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا يَحِلُّ لِلْخَلِيفَةِ مِنْ مَالِ اللَّهِ إِلَّا قَصْعَتَانِ قَصْعَةٌ يَأْكُلُهَا هُوَ وَأَهْلُهُ وَقَصْعَةٌ يَضَعُهَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ النَّاسِ.
I entered upon `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) - Hasan said: On the day of (Eid) al-Adha - and he brought some khazeerah (a dish made from small pieces of meat, broth and flour) to us. I said: May Allah guide you! Why don`t you make a dish for us from these ducks, for Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, has blessed us with a great deal of bounty. He said: O son of Zurair, I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “It is not permissible for the caliph to take more from the wealth of Allah than two dishes: one from which he and his family eat and one that he offers to the People.”
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ مَا رَمِدْتُ مُنْذُ تَفَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي عَيْنِي.
I have never had an eye infection since the Prophet (ﷺ) spat in my eye.”
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوتِرُ فِي أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ وَفِي وَسَطِهِ وَفِي آخِرِهِ ثُمَّ ثَبَتَ لَهُ الْوَتْرُ فِي آخِرِهِ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray Witr at the beginning of the night and in the middle and at the end, then he persisted in praying it at the end of the night.
It was narrated from Husain, from his father, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ لَا تُدِيمُوا النَّظَرَ إِلَى الْمُجَذَّمِينَ وَإِذَا كَلَّمْتُمُوهُمْ فَلْيَكُنْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ قِيدُ رُمْحٍ.
“Do not stare at lepers, and if you speak to them, let there be a distance of a spear between you and them.”
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا عَلِيُّ أَسْبِغْ الْوُضُوءَ وَإِنْ شَقَّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَا تَأْكُلْ الصَّدَقَةَ وَلَا تُنْزِ الْحَمِيرَ عَلَى الْخَيْلِ وَلَا تُجَالِسْ أَصْحَابَ النُّجُومِ.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: “O ‘Ali, do wudoo’ properly even if it is difficult for you; do not consume charity; do not mate a donkey with a horse; and do not sit with astrologers.”
It was narrated that an-Nazzal bin Sabrah said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ أُتِيَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بِكُوزٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ وَهُوَ فِي الرَّحْبَةِ فَأَخَذَ كَفًّا مِنْ مَاءٍ فَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ وَمَسَحَ وَجْهَهُ وَذِرَاعَيْهِ وَرَأْسَهُ ثُمَّ شَرِبَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذَا وُضُوءُ مَنْ لَمْ يُحْدِثْ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعَلَ.
A jug of water was brought to `Ali (رضي الله عنه) when he was in ar-Rahbah. He took a handful of water and rinsed his mouth and nose, and wiped his face, forearms and head. Then he drank whilst standing, then he said: This is the wudoo` of one who has not broken his wudoo`. I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) do this.
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنْ النَّارِ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever tells a lie about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell.”
It was narrated from `Ali (رضي الله عنه) that he said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ كَانَ آخِرُ كَلَامِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الصَّلَاةَ الصَّلَاةَ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ فِيمَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ.
`The last words of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) were: “Prayer, prayer! And fear Allah with regard to what your right hands possess, .`
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَجْعَلَ خَاتَمِي فِي هَذِهِ السَّبَّاحَةِ أَوْ الَّتِي تَلِيهَا.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade me to put my ring on the forefinger or the one next to it
It was narrated that Abu `Ubaid, the freed slave of ‘Abdur Rahman bin `Awf, said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ ثُمَّ شَهِدْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ يَوْمَ عِيدٍ بَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ وَصَلَّى بِلَا أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى أَنْ يُمْسِكَ أَحَدٌ مِنْ نُسُكِهِ شَيْئًا فَوْقَ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ.
Then I saw `Ali bin Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) after that on the day of Eid; he started with the prayer before the khutbah and he prayed with no adhan or iqamah. Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbidding (the people) to leave any of the meat of their sacrifice after three days.
It was narrated from `Ali (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet (ﷺ) gave his wives the choice between this world and the Hereafter; he did not give them the option of divorce. `Ali bin Hashim bin al-Bareed narrated a similar report and said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ و حَدَّثَنَاه يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ هَاشِمِ بْنِ الْبَرِيدِ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ وَقَالَ خَيَّرَ نِسَاءَهُ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَلَمْ يُخَيِّرْهُنَّ الطَّلَاقَ.
He gave his wives the choice between this world and the Hereafter; he did not give them the option of divorce.
It was narrated from Zaid bin `Ali bin al-Husain from his father that his grandfather said Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ قُتِلَ دُونَ مَالِهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ.
`whoever is killed defending his wealth is a martyr.`
قَالَ يَوْمَ الْأَحْزَابِ مَلَأَ اللَّهُ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَقُبُورَهُمْ نَارًا كَمَا شَغَلُونَا عَنْ الصَّلَاةِ حَتَّى آبَتْ الشَّمْسُ.
It was narrated from ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) that The Prophet (ﷺ) said on the day of al-Ahzab. `May Allah fill their houses and graves with fire, they distracted us from prayer until the sunset.`
It was narrated that ‘Ali said to Ibn `Abbas (رضي الله عنهما)
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ نِكَاحِ الْمُتْعَةِ وَعَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ الْأَهْلِيَّةِ زَمَنَ خَيْبَرَ.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade mut’ah marriage and the meat of donkeys at the time of Khaibar.
It was narrated that ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) said
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أُقَسِّمَ بُدْنَهُ أَقُومُ عَلَيْهَا وَأَنْ أُقَسِّمَ جُلُودَهَا وَجِلَالَهَا وَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ لَا أُعْطِيَ الْجَازِرَ مِنْهَا شَيْئًا وَقَالَ نَحْنُ نُعْطِيهِ مِنْ عِنْدِنَا.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) instructed me to share out the meat of his sacrifice and to be in charge of it, and to share out its skin and blankets, and he instructed me not to give the butcher anything of it and said: `We will give him something ourselves.”
It was narrated from Zaid bin Uthai`, a man from Hamdan
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalقَالَ بُعِثْتُ بِأَرْبَعٍ لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ إِلَّا نَفْسٌ مُؤْمِنَةٌ وَلَا يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ عُرْيَانٌ وَمَنْ كَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَهْدٌ فَعَهْدُهُ إِلَى مُدَّتِهِ وَلَا يَحُجُّ الْمُشْرِكُونَ وَالْمُسْلِمُونَ بَعْدَ عَامِهِمْ هَذَا.
We asked `Ali (رضي الله عنه) With what were you sent, i.e., on the day the Prophet (ﷺ) sent you with Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) for Hajj? He said: I was sent with four things. No one will enter Paradise except a believing soul; no one should circumambulate the Ka’bah naked; whoever had a covenant with the Prophet (ﷺ) it would remain in effect until the agreed time; and the mushrikeen were not to perform Hajj with the Muslims after that year.
It was narrated from `Ali (رضي الله عنه)
dansMusnad Ahmad ibn Hanbalحَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَضَى مُحَمَّدٌ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ الدَّيْنَ قَبْلَ الْوَصِيَّةِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَقْرَءُونَ الْوَصِيَّةَ قَبْلَ الدَّيْنِ وَأَنَّ أَعْيَانَ بَنِي الْأُمِّ يَتَوَارَثُونَ دُونَ بَنِي الْعَلَّاتِ.
Muhammad (ﷺ) ruled that debts must be paid before carrying art bequests, but you read the will before debts are paid off. that sons from the same mother inherit from one another, but sons from different mothers do not.
